 Farmers and cooperative

The Citlatl Cafen coffee cooperative represents a group of Mexican farmers who came together to confront the inequities of today’s coffee industry in a very remote and overlooked rural region in the mountains of Veracruz. Ixpaluca is the name of the very small town located in the coffee-growing area of the Sierra de Zongolica. This is a remote and isolated region, home to the Nahuatl indigenous population, who still preserve their ancestral cultural identity. The area is entirely rural, with a peasant lifestyle and deeply rooted agricultural traditions centered on a sustainable food production system.
